You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The easiest way to estimate a sum or a difference of decimals is to round the decimal. You can do that by rounding each decimal to the nearest whole number.
estimate the difference 4.08+-+1.74
4.08 round it to 4
+1.74 round it to 2
4+-+2=2->estimated difference

calculate: 4.08+-+1.74=2.34

estimate the sum4.08+%2B+1.74
4.08 round it to 4
+1.74 round it to 2
4+%2B2=6->estimated sum

calculate: 4.08+%2B1.74=5.82
