Question 135725
Area of a rectangle = Length* Width or A=LW

1.
Let A1=LW (original rectangle)
And A2=(2L)W (now we have doubled the length)

A2=2LW But notice that LW =A1, so:

A2=2A1  ---------------------answer, it doubles!!

2.  Same approach
Area of triangle=(1/2)Base*Height or A=(1/2)BH
A1=(1/2)BH (original triangle)
A2=(1/2)(2B)(2H) (now we have doubled the base and height)

A2=(1/2)(4)(BH) or 2BH But notice that BH =2A1, so:

A2=(2)(2A1) or 4A1 -----answer, it gets 4 times larger!!!!!!

Triangle:
Let B=2
H=4
A=(1/2)*8=4
Let B=4
H=8
A=(1/2)*32=16 which is 4*4

Hope this helps---ptaylor
