Question 130938
Depends on whether you need the total surface area of the cylinder or the lateral surface area. The total surface area includes the area of the two circles that form the bases of the cylinder, the lateral surface area excludes these:

Lateral Surface Area: {{{2*pi*rh}}}. That is because if you cut the cylinder and laid it out flat, you would have a rectangle that was the height in one dimension and the circumference of the base, {{{2*pi*r}}} in the other dimension.

Total Surface Area: {{{2*pi*rh+2*pi*r^2}}}. That is because you start with the lateral surface area and add the area of the two circles that form the bases, 2 times {{{pi*r^2}}}.
