Question 127995
There are two ways you can solve this. By graphing to see if the ordered pair (1, -1) falls on both lines, or by simply substituting the x and y coordinates into both equations and seeing if they prove true.

Substitution is shown below

To substitute take your first equation and substitute 1 for x and -1 for y
{{{2*1-(-1)=3}}} would be {{{2*1+1=3}}} which simplifies to {{{3=3}}} so the ordered pair is a solution for the first equation.

Lets check the second, substituting the values in for the x and y coordinates

{{{(4*1)+2*(-1)=2}}}

Simplfy this down {{{4-2=2}}} to {{{2=2}}} so the ordered pair (1,-1) is a solution for both equations.

If you would like me to show you the graphing steps, please let me know.
