Question 125890
Hi Sharon,

In order to complete her task Sally needs to cut a circle with a diameter of 72 inches + 4 inches for hemming or a total of 76 inches.

1. We will be using the formula for the area of a circle (Pi r^2 = Area)
Since r = the radius of the circle and the radius is equal to half of the diameter our value for r = 76/2 or 38

2. Pi r^2 = Area in square inches of fabric required for the job
3. Pi(r)(r) = Area
3. (3.14)(38)(38) = 4534.16 square inches (to two decimal places)

Hope this helps!
