Question 124308

Area of Triangle-(1/2)*Base*Height or A=(1/2)BH

Let h=height of triangle
Then h+6=base of triangle

Then Area=20cm^2=(1/2)(h)(h+6) simplify (multiply both sides by 2)

h^2+6h=40cm^2 subtract 40 from both sides

h^2+6h-40=0----------quadratic in standard form and it can be factored:

(h+10)(h-4)=0
h+10=0
h=-10--------------------disregard ----lengths are positive

and

h-4=0
h=4 cm------------------height of triangle
h+6=4+6=10cm----------------------base of triangle

CK
A=(1/2)BH
20=(1/2)*4*10
20=20

Hope this helps--ptaylor
