Question 123327
I need to wite a sentence explaining the following:
(-x)^2 is not equal to -x^2. I'm having a real porblem wth this! Thanks in advance for your help!
Denis

In the first instance, the (-) is also squared and we know that a minus times a minus equals a plus and in the second instance the minus is not squared only the x is squared so the answer would be (-). In other words, the second instance could be written as -(x^2).

Hope this helps---ptaylor
