Question 121009
How do you solve this problem? is there a formula A student has completed 32 credits with a GPA of 2.65 how many credits must he now complete with a grade of 3.5 in order to raise his GPA to 3.0 or higher it must be a whole number of credits.
:
Perhaps we could just treat it like a mixture problem where;
x = the additional credits required
:
2.65(32) + 3.5x = 3.0(x+32)
:
84.8 + 3.5x = 3x + 96
:
3.5x  - 3x = 96 - 84.8
:
.5x = 11.2
:
x = {{{11.2/.5}}}
x = 22.4, but is must be an integer, 23 additional credits required

I may be all wet on this idea. Let me know if I have messed this up
