Question 118778
Write out the equation:
.
Distance = Rate * Time
.
Substitute the values given in the problem. The distance traveled is 325 miles and the rate
is 50 miles per hour. Plugging these values into the equation results in:
.
325 = 50 * Time
.
Solve this equation by dividing both sides by 50 (the multiplier of Time) and you have:
.
{{{Time = 325/50}}}
.
When you do the division on the right side you get an answer of 6.5
.
So the Time to make the trip is:
.
{{{Time = 6.5 }}} hours (which is the same as 6 hours and 30 minutes).
.
Hope this helps you to understand the problem. You can almost do it in your head. If
you think "I got 50 miles in the first hour, so in 2 hours I go 100 miles ... then in
4 hours I go 200 miles and in 6 hours I go 300 miles. Then at 50 miles per hour it will take
me a half-hour more to go the remaining 25 miles. So it takes 6 and a half hours to
go 325 miles at 50 miles per hour.
