Question 116888
Fungicides account for 1/10 of the pesticides used in the United States. Insecticides account for 1/4 off all the pesticides used in the United States. The ratio of fungicides to insecticides used in the United States can be written as 1/10 Divided By 1/4. Write this ratio in simplist form.

{{{(1/10)/(1/4)}}} this is known as a complex fraction and we want to make it a simple fraction (e.g., a/b). We can do this by multiplying the numerator and denominator by {{{4/1}}}:

{{{((1/10)(4/1))/((1/4)(4/1))}}} and this reduces to:

{{{(4/10)/1}}}= 4/10 or 2/5

Hope this helps---ptaylor
