Question 115642
Hello there,

When b and c are missing, their value is 0 because they're missing!

1. The vertex is at (0,0).

There are two ways to find this out:

1) For the graph y = x^2, the vertex is at (0,0). The equation y = 3x^2 means that y = x^2 is stretched out, so the vertex hasn't changed.

2) You can use the formula {{{ h = -b/2a. }}}

h = -b/2a

  = 0/2(3)

  = 0

Plug 0 into the equation of the parabola:

l = f(0) = 0^2

         = 0

2. y = 5x^2 - 1

h = -b/2a

  = -0/2(5)

  = 0

k = f(0) = 5(0)^2 - 1

         = -1

Therefore, the vertex is at (0, -1).
