The wording of the problem could be improved.  "... own one or the other" could mean ONLY one of the two; or it could mean one or the other or both.<br>
I will assume the meaning is the latter.<br>
The opposite (complement) of "owning one or the other" is NOT owning either one -- that is, NOT owning a flat screen TV AND NOT owning a computer.  The probability of that happening is (1-0.90)(1-0.80) = (0.10)(0.20) = 0.02; so the probability that they own one or the other is 1-0.02 = 0.98.<br>
