Question 17097
The way this is set up, it looks like two equations and two unknowns.

Let W = height of Washington Monument
E = height of Eiffel Tower

E = W + 497
E-58 = 2(W-58)

Use the substitution method (or whatever method YOU like better!) Substitute the E from the first equation into the second equation:
E- 58 = 2(W-58)
(_____) - 58 = 2(W-58)
(W+497) - 58 = 2W - 116
W + 439= 2W - 116
W-W + 439 = 2W-W - 116
439= W-116
439+ 116 = W -116+116
W = 555 feet
T= W+497
T= 555 + 497 = 1052 feet

Check:E-58 = 2(W-58)
994 = 2(497)
994= 994

It checks!
