Question 1189163
a party of trekkers left a staging huat at an elevation of 465 feet. and arrived at their destination at an elevation of 2347 feet/ ACcording to the map the camps were 3000 feet part. What was average slope between the two camps? The answer was 0.81 but i don't understand how.
---------------
Change in elevation is the y.  2347 - 465 = 1882
Distance is the hypotenuse = r = 3000
sin(A) = y/r = 1882/3000 = ~0.6273333
A = asin(0.627333) = 38.85 degs
Slope = tan(A) = 0.80556
---------------------
Or, solve for the horizontal distance, x
x^2 = 3000^2 - 1882^2 = 5458076
x =~2336.25
----
Slope = rise/run = y/x = 1882/2336.25 = 0.80556
