Question 1187488

Can anyone help please? It would be kindly appreciated, thanks!
      Bobby, Edward and kelvin made a bottle of paper stars.
    The number of paper stars Bobby made was 21 more than 1/4 the total number of paper stars
in the bottle.
    The number of paper stars Edward made was 30 more than 1/4 of the remaining number of
paper stars in the bottle.
      Kelvin made the remaining 114 paper stars.
      How many paper stars did they make in all?
<pre>This doesn't have to be a NOVEL as the other person makes it out to be.

Let number of stars made be N
Then number Bobby made was: {{{matrix(1,3, 21 + (1/4)N, or, 21 + N/4)}}}
Remainder: {{{matrix(1,3, (3/4)N - 21, "or", 3N/4 - 21)}}}
Number Edward made: {{{matrix(1,9, 30 + 1/4, of, (3N/4 - 21), "=", 30 + 3N/16 - 21/4, "=", 120/4 - 21/4 + 3N/16, "=", 99/4 + 3N/16)}}}

Since Kelvin made 114, we get: {{{matrix(2,3, N, "=", 21 + N/4 + 99/4 + 3N/16+ 114, N - N/4 - 3N/16, "=", 135 + 99/4)}}}
                          16N - 4N - 3N = 135(16) + 99(4) ------ Multiplying by LCD, 16
                                     9N = 135(4)(4) + 99(4)
                                     9N = 540(4) + 99(4)
                                     9N = 639(4)
  Number of stars made, or {{{highlight_green(matrix(1,7, N, "=", 639(4)/9, "=", 71(4), "=", 284))}}}</pre>
