Question 1186228
.
 Two dice are thrown together once. Find the probability of obtaining:
1. an odd number on the first die and 6 on the second
2. a number greater than 4 on each dice
3. a total of 9 or 11
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<pre>
(1)  In all, there are  6*6 = 36  different possible otcomes.
     They are all the pair of integer numbers (a,b), where "a" and "b" are from 1 to 6 inclusive.
     Of these 36 pairs, the favorable are three outcomes (1,6), (3,6), (5,6).
     So, the probability is  {{{favorable/total}}} = {{{3/36}}} = {{{1/12}}}.
(2)  Again, I will not repeat about 36 total outcomes.
     The favorable are 4 pairs (a,b), where a = 5 or 6  and b = 5 or 6, independtently.
     The probability is  {{{4/36}}} = {{{1/9}}}.
(3)  Again, there 36 total outcomes.
     Of them, there are 4 favorable with the sum of  9  (they are the pairs (3,6), (4,5), (5,4), (6,3))
                    and 2 favorable with the sum of 11  (they are the pairs (5,6) and (6,5)).
     In all, there are 4 + 2 = 6 favorable outcomes.
     The probability is  {{{6/36}}} = {{{1/6}}}.
