Question 1183789
.
I don't understand how to set up the equation to figure this out, please help.
A continuous random variable has a uniform distribution. Find the probability of the given event.
A calculus professor plans classes so carefully that the length of his classes is uniformly distributed
between 100.0 min. and 105.0 min. Let x be the random variable representing the length
of his randomly selected class. Find the probability the class is less than 102 min.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Take the time duration, which is over 100.0 minutes: it is (102.0 min - 100.0 min) = 2.0 minutes,
and relate it to the duration of the basic time interval (105.0 min - 100.0 min) = 5.0 minutes.
So, the ratio {{{2/5}}} = 0.4 = 40% is the sough probability.
It is how the uniform probability distribution works.
Solved.
