Question 110296

  ( 2, -3 )
x + y = -1
2x + 5y = 19

  substituting the values of x = 2  and y = -3 in x+y

   we get 2+(-3) = 2-3 = -1   since the first eq'n is satisfied (2,-3) is the

  solution  for x+y = -1

  2(2)+5(-3) = 4-15 = -11  not equal to 19 . hence (2,-3) is not the solutin for 2x+5y = 19

  solve each system of equations by graphing. ( granted my text shows the graph and i got graph paper not sure how exactly you can help with this) If the two equations produce parallel lines write no solution. If the two equations produce the same line write infinite number of solution......
x - y = 2
x + y = 6 {{{ graph( 300, 200, -6, 5, -10, 10, x-y = 2) }}}

          {{{ graph( 300, 200, -6, 5, -10, 10, x+y = 6) }}}

     since the two eq'ns produce parallel lines there is no solutions
