Question 110321
Question:

7x+9y=26
x=32-6y
Solve for y and x

Answer:

7x + 9y = 26 ------------(1)

x = 32 - 6y --------------(2)

Plug the value x = 32 - 6y in the first  equation.

==> 7 (32 - 6y)  + 9y = 26

Here use the distributive property to remove the parenthesis..

==> 7 * 32 - 7 * 6y + 9y = 26

==> 224 - 42y + 9y = 26

==> 224 - 33y = 26

Add 33y on both sides......

==> 224 - 33y + 33y = 26 + 33y

==> 224 = 26 + 33y

Subtract 26 from both sides...

==> 224 - 26 = 26 + 33y - 26

==> 198 = 33y

Divide both sides by 33

==> {{{ 198/33 = 33y/33}}}

==> {{{ 6 = y }}}

So he value of y = 6

Now substitute this value in (2)

==>x = 32 - 6* 6

==> x = 32 - 36

==> x = -4

Sp the solution is..

{{{ x = -4}}} and {{{ y = 6}}}

Hope you found the explanation useful.
