Question 1013032
(1) This is not an arithmetic sequence, as the other tutor says. The difference between the 3rd and 4th terms is twice the difference between the 1st and 2nd and between the 2nd and 3rd.
(2) Even if there WERE a common difference between all pairs of successive terms, we could only GUESS that it was an arithmetic sequence. Given the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, ?, we could guess that the next number is 5. But the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 is just as good a sequence as 1,2,3,4,5.
So the bottom line on ANY problem like this is that, without further information about the sequence, it is impossible to know what the pattern is or what the next number(s) are.
