algebraically, but I'm not sure what the last step is. Like how to show the answer. So here's the answer I got... -3x^2-2x+1<0<BR> x=(2+or-sqrt(4+12))/(2*-3)<BR> = (2+or-sqrt(16))/(-6)<BR>

You are right but at this point, I would separate the two solutions:
x = {{{(2-4)/(-6)}}}
x = {{{(-2)/(-6)}}}
x = +{{{1/3}}}
and
x = {{{(2 + 4)/(-6)}}}
x = {{{6/(-6)}}}
x = -1
