A page of a school yearbook is 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches. The left and right margins are 1 inch and 2 1/2 inches, respectively.. The space between pictures is 1/4 inch.. How wide can each picture be to fit 3 across the width of the page. 
a. Write verbal model for this problem 
LM + RM + 2(space b/w pics)+ 3(width of pics) = page width 
1 + 5/2 +2(1/4) + 3(width of pics) = 17/2
1 + 5/2 + 1/2 + 3 width of pics = 17/2
3 width of pics = 9/2
width of pics = 3/2 in
