You aren't very clear as to the shape of the hollow part, but from the point of view of describing the process that doesn't matter.


Find the volume of the entire rectangular prism using length times width times height.  Then find the volume of the hollow part using whatever volume formula is appropriate for the shape.  Then subtract the volume of the hollow part from the volume of the entire prism.
