Question 1154078
A piece of wire of length 1meter is cut into two parts and each part is bent to form a square. The total area of the two squares formed is 325 centimetre Square.
1, Given that one of the pieces is x cm long, find the area of the square formed from this piece in terms of x.

2,Find the area of the square formed by the remaining piece in terms of x.

3,Determine the possible values of x.

If one part is x , the other part will be (100-x)cm

One side of first square will be x/4 and the side of other square will be {{{(100-x)/4}}}

Area of first square = {{{(x/4)^2}}}

Area of other square = {{{( (100-x)/4)^2}}}

Sum of their areas

{{{(x/4)^2}}} +  {{{( (100-x)/4)^2}}}= 325

Simplify

{{{(x^2/16) + ((10000-200x +x^2)/16)   =325}}}

{{{ (2x^2 -200x +10000)/16    =325}}}

{{{ 2x^2 -200x +10000    =16*325}}}

{{{ 2x^2 -200x +10000    =5200}}}

{{{ 2x^2 -200x + 4800=0}}}

{{{ x^2 -100x + 2400=0}}}

Solve for x

x=40 or 60
