Question 106266
11/the square root of 3-5. I know that have to multiply by the oppisite which is the square root of 3+5 but I don't know what to do from there.
----------
[11/sqrt(3)] -5

Rationalize the denominator by multiplying num and denom by sqrt3 to get:

[11sqrt3/3] - 5

= [(11/3)sqrt3] - 5
====================
If you original problem is the following you do as follows:
11/[sqrt(3)-5}

Rationalize the denominator by multiplying num and denom by [sqrt3 + 5] to get:

[11(sqrt(3)+5]/[3-25]

= [11sqrt(3)+5]/(-22)

= [sqrt(3)+5]/(-2)

= (-1/2)(sqrt(3)+5)
