Question 105902
y=mx+b
m=slope
I'll tell you how not to have anymore problem with these.
A) Put all your equations in the form above.
-3x=5-2y
2y=3x+5 add 2y+3x to each side.
y=(3/2)x+5 divide each side by 2.
m=3/2
.
-3x+2y=11
2y=3x+11
y=(3/2)x+11
m=3/2
.
Since the slope of both lines is the same the lines are parallel or the same.
If b in the equations, as in this case, is different then the lines are parallel. There is no solution and therefore the system is inconsistent. (Memorize that.)
If b was the same in both equations and the slope is the same also, they would be the same equation and the answer would be consitent but undetermined. there would be an infinite number of solutions.
If the slopes different then the is an answer, the lines cross and it is consistent.
