I don't know what you mean by "percentage of their ages", so I will ignore that....<br>
The difference in their ages is 3 years.<br>
When the ratio of their ages was 4:3, their ages had to be 12 and 9.<br>
(When the ratio of their ages was 4:3, their ages were 4x and 3x; the difference is x.  But we know the difference is 3; so their ages were 4x=12 and 3x=9.)<br>
It was 5 years ago that the ratio of their ages was 4:3; that means their ages now are 12+5=17 and 9+5=14.<br>
