Question 1148442
a man is older than his wife by 3 years.
x = man's present age
wife is 5 yrs younger therefore:
(x-5) = wife's age
:
 5 years ago the ratio of their age is 4:3,
{{{((x-5))/((x-5-5))}}} = {{{4/3}}}
:
{{{((x-5))/((x-10))}}} = {{{4/3}}}
cross multiply
4(x-10) = 3(x-5)
4x - 40 = 3x - 15
4x - 3x = -15 + 40
x = 25 is the mans age
then obviously
20 = the wife's age
:
 find the percentage of their age
{{{20/25}}} * 100 = 80% is the wife's percentage of the man's age
or
{{{5/20}}} = .25, man is 25% older than the wife
