Question 1148284

Two friends Ronald and Micheal live 200 miles apart. They plan to drive towards each other and meet somewhere between their houses. Ronald starts driving at 12:00 pm and drives 44 mph towards Micheal. Micheal wants to finish his favorite daytime show before he gets on the road. He doesn't start driving until 1:00 pm. He drives 60mph to try to make up for lost time. What time do the two friends meet?
<pre>Let time taken by Michael to meet, be T
Then time Ronald takes = T + 1
We then get the following DISTANCE equation: 60T + 44(T + 1) = 200
60T + 44T + 44 = 200
104T = 156
T, or time taken by Michael to meet = {{{matrix(1,4, 156/104, "=", 1&1/2, hours)}}}
Time they will meet: {{{highlight_green(matrix(1,7, "1:00", "p.m.", "+", "1:30", "=", "2:30", "p.m."))}}}
