Question 105755
Science and medicine. A computer can execute 36 instructions per microsecond.
How many instructions can it execute in 4 min?

OMG, please help me with the microsecond thing I do not understand this at all!!

Relax. If you simply know what microsecond means, the whole problem will be easy.
Ok. Microsecond is {{{10^-6}}}. This means there are 1,000,000 (wow. that's alot) microseconds in a second. Now, how many seconds are there is a minute? 60. So multiply 1,000,000 by 60, which equals 60,000,000 (by the way, 60,000,000 microseconds is 1 minute, if you didn't know) Now, the question asks you how many instructions can it execute in FOUR (4) minutes. So multiply THAT by 4, which is 240,000,000. So 4 minutes is 240,000,000. However, we're not talking about 1 instruction per microsecond here. We're talking about THIRTY-SIX (36)! So we have to multiply 240,000,000 by 36, which finally equals 8,640,000,000.
So, computer executes 8,640,000,000 instructions in 4 minutes.

Alright. Good luck.
