Question 105611

The Length of a rectangle is {{{8in}}} more then its width
if {{{a}}} is {{{lenght}}} and {{{b}}} is {{{width}}}, then:

{{{a = b + 8in}}}

the perimeter is {{{P = 24in }}}

{{{P = 2 (a+b)}}}

{{{P = 2 ( (b+8in)+b)}}}

{{{P = 2(2b+8in)}}}

{{{P = 2b + 16in}}}

since {{{P = 24in}}}, we have:

{{{24in = 4b + 16in}}}

{{{4b = 24in - 16in}}}

{{{4b = 8in}}}

{{{b = 2in}}}

then  {{{a = 2in + 8in}}}  => {{{a = 10in}}}
