Question 105228

Well, lets begin by letting S=one of the sides of the square. Now we know that the area of a square is S*S or S^2 and we are told that this equals 82 ft^2. So:

S^2=82 ft^2 take the square root of both sides

S=+or-SQRT(82) forget the negative value because lengths are positive

S=9.055 now to the nearest hundreth, S would be either 9.06 or 9.05 depending on our convention for rounding.

Hope this helps----ptaylor
