The quick and easy way to solve the problem is to use a graphing calculator like the TI83 or TI84 that has the ability to find minimum values of functions.<br>
You could take the derivative of the function and set it equal to zero to find the value of x where the slope is 0 and therefore where the function value is minimum.  But setting the derivative equal to 0 gives you an equation that can't be solved algebraically; you would have to use numerical methods -- e.g., a graphing calculator.<br>
So you might as well just go ahead and graph the given function using a graphing calculator....
