Question 104526
{{{f(x)=(2x)/(x+2)}}}
verticle assymptote: Check the denominator. What value for x makes the denominator zero? Ans. x=2. That is the verticle assymptote where division by zero is not allowed.
horizontal assymptote: m is the degree of the polynomial denominator. n is the degree of the polynomial numerator.
for m<n the h.a. is the line y=0
for m=n the h.a. is the line a[m]/b[n]
for m>n there is no h.a.
.
for m=n the h.a. is the line a[m]/b[n] is our case. 2x/x=2 so y=2 is the verticle assymptote.
.
x intercept when y=0: 2x/(x+2)=0...x=0
intercept when x=0: 0/2=0...y=0
.
Hope that helps.
