Question 1138906
We do not have your book and we do not know what book you do have.

Factoring trinomials is like working backward from multiplying two binomials.

{{{(x+a)(x+b)}}}, two multiplied binomials
{{{x*x+ax+bx+a*b}}}
{{{x^2+(a+b)x+ab}}}, the quadratic trinomial

If you have in general x^2+hx+k and you want to factor it (IF it is factorable), then you want two numbers a and b so that a+b=h and ab=k. You would usually use your arithmetic knowledge to figure out what those values are.
