The algebra is often easier in a problem like this if you let x be the middle of the three integers.  If you are good with mental calculations, you might be able to solve the problem without writing out all the steps.<br>

Because x is the middle of the three consecutive odd integers, the sum of the three integers is now 3x.<br>
That sum is 17 less than 4 times the smallest integer, which is x-2:<br>
