Question 1117256
Working together, two pumps can drain a certain pool in 3
hours. If it takes the older pump 12 hours to drain the pool by itself,
How long will it take the newer pump to drain the pool on its own?
Do not do any rounding.
--------
together rate = 1/3 job/hr
older pump rate = 1/12 job/hr
newer pump rate = 1/x job/hr
------
Equation:
1/x + 1/12 = 1/3
------
12 + 3x = 4x
x = 12 hrs (time for the newer pump)
