This is just four iterations of a relatively simple arithmetic problem.  Take the first number in an ordered pair and substitute it for *[tex \Large x] then take the second number in the pair and substitute it for *[tex \Large y].  Do the arithmetic.  If you get a false statement, like -4 = 13 or anything else that simply isn't true, then you know that pair is NOT an element of the solution set for the given equation.
