Question 1109976

Two good answers from other tutors....<br>
Now here is a non-traditional method that is faster for me.<br>
The ratio of times is 12:8, or 3:2. Since the distances going and coming are the same; the ratio of speeds is 2:3.<br>
So let 2x be the speed on the way there; let 3x be the speed on the way back.<br>
Her speed on the trip home was 20mph faster:
{{{3x-2x=20}}}
{{{x = 20}}}
Her speed going was 2x = 40mph; her speed returning was 3x = 60mph. Either calculation 12*40 or 8*60 will give you the distance, which is 480 miles.
