Question 1106866
.
Use the substitution method to solve the system of equations. Choose the correct ordered pair.

16x – 2y = 74
2x – 2y = 4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<pre>
16x – 2y = 74      (1)
 2x – 2y =  4      (2)
</pre>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<U>Track &nbsp;attentively &nbsp;my &nbsp;steps</U>:
<pre>
From eq(2) express  2x = 4 + 2y.  Now substitute it into equation (1).  You will get
8*(2x) - 2y = 74  ====>
8*(4 + 2y) - 2y = 74
32 + 16y - 2y = 74
14y = 74 - 32  ====>  14y = 42  ====>  y = {{{42/14}}} = 3.
Then  2x = 4 + 2y = 4 + 2*3 = 10  ====>  x = {{{10/2}}} = 5.
<U>Answer</U>.  The solution is  x = 5,  y = 3.
<U>Check</U>.   Check it on your own.
Notice that I chose unusual way making substitution.
I did it in order for avoid unnecessary calculations.
My way perfectly works !
