Question 98614
If one-half of one integer is subtracted from three-fifths of the next consecutive integer, the difference is 3. What are the two integers?
---------------
The consecutive integers are x and (x+1)
EQUATION:
(3/5)(x+1)-x = 3
Multiply both sides by 5 to get:
3(x+1)-5x = 15
3x+3-5x = 15
-2x = 12
x = -6 (one of the integers)
x+1 = -5 (the other integer)
