Question 1091750
I personally would not use the distributive law to simplify the expression on the left, as the other tutors who answered your question have done.
{{{-2(7-y)+4 = -4}}}
(1) Move the "4" on the left to the right side, to get the term containing the variable by itself:
{{{-2(7-y) = -8}}}
(2) Divide both sides by -2:
{{{7-y = 4}}}
From there the answer y=3 is easy to see, or to find using formal algebra.
