Question 1070251
.
Airplane 1 leaves city A for city B at the same time Airplane 2 leaves city B for city A. The distance from city A to city B is 565 miles.
If Airplane 1 travels at 560 miles per hour and Airplane 2 travels at 570 miles per hour, how long into their flights
will the two planes pass each other?

Thank you!

<pre>
t = {{{565/(560+570)}}} = {{{565/1130}}} = 0.5 of an hour = 30 minutes.   (*)

The numerator 565 is the distance, in miles;

the denominator 560 + 570 = 1130 is the relative speed of the two planes, or the rate of decreasing the distance between them.

The formula (*) which I used is the standard formula t = {{{distance/Rate}}}.
