If *[tex \Large a] is the average of *[tex \Large n] numbers, then the sum of the *[tex \Large n] numbers must be *[tex \Large a\ \times\ n].  So if you know all but one of the numbers, add up all of the numbers you know and subtract that sum from the product of the number of numbers times the known average.
