x^2 + 4x = y - 4
When either the x or the y is squared, but not both, you have a parabola.  When the x is squared you have a parabola that opens vertically (up or down).  If +1 is the coefficient of y and x^2 has a positive coefficient, the parabola opens upward.
Therefore, this represents a parabola that opens upward like this:
