Question 1059880

the longer leg of a right triangle is 3m longer than the shorter leg. the hypotenuse is 6m longer than the shorter leg. find the side lengths of the triangle.
<pre>Let the shorter leg be S
Then longer leg = S + 3, and the hypotenuse = S + 6
The equation you need to solve is: {{{S^2 + (S + 3)^2 = (S + 6)^2}}}
Solve this for S, the shorter leg
Add 3 to S to get length of longer leg
Add 6 to S to get length of hypotenuse, OR
If you know about Pythagorean triples, you'd recognize the results as one.

If you don't know this by now, IGNORE the person who has a different equation.
That equation is WRONG, just like the majority of his other CONFUSING and INCORRECT responses!
