Question 1059462
Write two expressions here, one expression for each company.
Let "x" represent the number of miles the truck is driven.

Mat Mobile charges a 50 dollar FEE so 50 will be the constant in this expression.
They charge 50 cents PER MILE so this means 0.50 will be multiplied by our variable, x.

0.50x + 50

Rick's Van charges a forty dollar FEE so 40 will be the constant in this expression. They charge 55 cents PER MILE so this means 0.55 will be multiplied by "x".

0.55x + 40

Now for part 1, the problem wants to know which company is most inexpensive (cheapest) if you move 50 miles. We know "x" represents the number of miles the truck is driven for, so plug in 50 for "x" and simplify in both equations. Their solutions are the total cost for each company. Compare their answers.

Mat Mobile: 0.50(50) + 50 = $75
Rick's Van: 0.40(50) + 50 = $67.50

Rick's Van charges less for 50 miles.

Do the same with part 2, but instead, plug in 500 for "x".
