Question 1056086
A 57-foot wire is cut into three pieces. The second piece if 7 feet longer than the first piece and the third piece is twice as long as the second piece. How long is each piece?
---------------------------------
1st piece:: x ft
2nd piece:: x+7 ft
3rd piece:: 2(x+7) = 2x+14
--------------------
Equation:
x + (x+7) + (2x+14) = 57 ft
-----------------------------------
4x + 21 = 57
4x = 36
x = 1st = 9 ft
2nd piece = x+7 = 16 ft
3rd piece = 2(x+7) = 32 ft
