Question 1055547
Hello, parent of a 6th grader. Here's how to solve the problem:
The area of the wall is an unknown, let it be x. We know that 5/6 of a gallon covers x. The question, though, is what if we only have 1/2 gallon, how much of x can we then cover.
5/6x = 1/2 divide both sides by 5/6
x = (1/2)/(5/6)
x = 1/2*6/5
x = (1*6)/2*5)
x = 6/10 simplify, divide numerator and denominator by 2
x = 3/5
