Question 1055109
.
Two water filters discharge into the same container. Filter A discharges at the rate of 16 quarts per hour and filter B
at the rate of 3.5 quarts every 15 minutes. Determine capacity of the smallest container that can be filled in
an integral (whole) number of minutes by either filter.

Let C = capacity of container.

1 hour = 60 minutes.

My attempt:

Filter A - 16 quarts per hr. = 4 quarts every 15 min.

Filter B - 3.5 quarts every 15 min.

Total 7.5 quarts every 15 min.

30 quarts per hr.

Unsure how to proceed.  Thanks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Filter A - 16 quarts per hr. = {{{16/60}}} {{{quarts/min}}} = {{{8/30}}} {{{quarts/min}}}.
Filter B - 3.5 quarts every 15 min = 14 quarts per hr. = {{{14/60}}} {{{quarts/min}}} = {{{7/30}}} {{{quarts/min}}}.
<U>Answer to the problem question</U>. Capacity of the smallest tank is {{{56/30}}} = {{{28/15}}} quarts. (7 minutes to fill for A and 8 minutes to fill for B).
